We had an examination for 4 days on March 24 to March 27. The examination was also called as IB mock exam. Since it was the first year of IB program, work I have done were hard and required a lot of effort. The exams were okay but the grades her graded hard. So, I really felt IB is not as easy as i think.

I think I didn’t put much effort as i can. I was sometimes distracted by other things and couldn’t just focus on the study. Next year, I think I have to review what I studied everyday. I think fully understanding is needed for IB program. I think my problem for this year was not enough reviewing on what i had learned. Since I noticed my problem, I believe I can improve more next year. :)

This year was my first year in the high school. The first semester was really challenging for me. I had a lot of hard times and I spent such a long time to finish my homeworks. When I just came to the high school, writing essay was very hard for me. However, i think I’m doing better this year. I don’t have to spent as much time as last year to finish my homework. I improved my grades, too. Now, Ihave higher GPA than last semester. I hope Ihave higher grades next year. Of course, I have to work harder to get higher grade. My present goal is to do well in my second semester exam. Last time, I had no idea what to do for the exam. So this time, i want to be more prepared for the exam.

I haven’t seen all exam grades, but recently, I have got grades on Biology, Math and Korean. Except Korean, I got really poor grades on the exam. Of course it was disappointing, but actually I already knew that I will get poor grades on the exam.

The reason why I thought so is because I failed to plan a preparation schedule. For example, I had five subjects that should be studied before exam, and I planned the schedule for those subjects. However, I couldn’t finish all topics on each subject, so I think that is why my grades are poor. Also, I spent too much time to organize what I have learned and make notes about whole topics. I did it because I haven’t taken good note taking from classes. That is why I organized the notes again and made a new note. That is why I didn’t have time to review some quizzes and tests.

On the other hand, the notes that I have taken was well organized so I could get some average grades at least. Also, since I have organized other subjects either, so I think it will be helpful for IB exam for next year.

Overall, I think I haven’t prepared for exam well because of two reasons; spending too much time on organizing notes again and not studying subjects in depth. Because of the results I have got and the experience I had through this exam, I now plan how to do for next year’s IB exam. I noticed that I have to take good notes from each class so that I don’t have to organize them again, and after school, I have to review what I have learned that day. Next year, I am going to get good grades on the exam.

Since I’m not a IB student, this time I didn’t took IB examination, however im going to take final examination on April. Since I didn’t do the examination yet I will talk about this semester, how im getting on with my schoolwork at them moment, what’s my goals are, and more.
Now a days I’m stressed out with my GPA, it’s keeps on dropping my grade. I try to work as hard as I can so that I could raise my grades up. Also one of the goals of this year is getting good grades in my final examinations.

We just had final exam last week and I think I didn’t prepare well on final exam. Since I am taking IB subjects, they are so hard for me especially the subjects such as business and psychology. So for this final exam, I made my own summary of each subjects, I put there brief explanation of vocabulary or the theory etc. It was so help me to study those hard subjects because if I made a summary then I can see all the topics that I should know for exam at the same time. I prepared summaries for psychology, biology, and business. Making summary took long time either but it was very helpful. One thing I really didn’t know was answering for essay. I practiced a lot also for writing an essay for this exam but it is still hard for me. I should know how to answer the questions because I heard that if I am not answering the questions then it’s wrong even if I write a long paragraph, and since the vocabulary that we use in our study is pretty hard even just understanding the question was hard. But since I practiced a lot it got better. For next final I will practice more like writing essay so I will get better grade then this year.

Everyone says that first semester of junior year is the most challenging year because it is a transition from regular classes to IB courses. Like everyone says, it was the toughest year for me. Even though I don’t take full IB diploma, it was still hard for me. Everything was totally new and challenging.

Since we only had one exam in a year, we had so many things to review. We had one-week break just before the exam and it helped me alot. Since I had much time to review, I was able to review everything that I have learned. While I was reviewing for this exam, I got a lot of tips. I made my own method to study and it helped me a lot. For example, I made my own notes followed by syllabus for biology and I was able to cover everything that I need to remember. In business, it was hard to take down notes because there were so many things to write. So, I read the text book carefully and made sure that I understood everything. These my own tips helped me to study well and I also discovered some creative ways of studying.

On the other hand, I still have many things to improve. Since it was my first time to take the exams for IB courses, I really did not know the formats of the exam. I could have asked to the teachers about the types of the questions. For next exam, I will also ask some tips from seniors and teachers. Additionally, I also should improve my skills for reviewing because my methods took me such a long time. I could have found out the quicker ways of studying so that I would not spend much time only for taking notes.

Overall, this exam gave me the ideas of IB exams and I believe that I can do much better next time. Even though it was a tough time, I feel proud of myself and it motivates me a lot. I will finish up my rest of junior years with my best efforts.

Reflection on the mock examinations

I took five IB exams last week and I am getting back results of the texts right now. It’s always helpful to do some reflection after exams to see what has gone well and what has not. In general, exams were not easy for me, especially the higher level subjects. For each subject, the exam covers all the staff that we have learnt from August last year until now. For some subjects like Business, there were more than ten topics to study. The massive amount of knowledge needed to be reviewed and that was really hard. Spending hours before the exam day, trying to review as much as possible, was what I did during the spring break, which was right before the exam week. However, there were so many subjects to learn and review, my review during the break was not very efficient. I found that I started to forget things that I just reviewed a few days ago. As a result, the exams were not done very well. I had two and half hours of exams for both Physic and Chemistry. Lack of practicing of past paper questions caused slower pace during the actually exams. I ran out of time for most of the exams and I gave up many points. That was very disappointing because the exam couldn’t fully reflect what and how I have learned.

On the other hand, bad exam grades also help me to improve. I know what I did badly on or which chapter that I didn’t understand. We still have a quarter this semester and I need to change the way I learn for some subjects because there are problem showed in the exams. This mock examination was useful preparation for next year’s really exam, which covers what we have learned in the past two years. Now I think I know how to modify my exam preparation schedule for next year. I will start to review much earlier than this year so that I have enough time to review for each subject.

IB exams are so hard!!!
Last week I just had an IB exam and the only feeling that I had about the exam was ‘HARD’. Even though I had exams last year and the year before as well, however the IB exam was just totally different from what I have experienced. Comparing to the exams that I had before, it has much more high requirements, the questions were much more complicated and the marking scheme was much more specific and higher leveled. It also requires the students (me) to understand more about the subject as well not only about the textbook information, but also on many real life case study and background readings as well. However I think even though I studied so hard and prepare so much before the examination, I still wasn’t prepared enough. Some questions or subjects that I had were also unable for me to prepare as well except for reading my notes because we didn’t know that the teacher is going to give us on the exam. However through this exam, I think I have a better idea about what is an ‘IB exam’. I think will help me a lot to prepare for the real IB exam next year. Since I already experienced a mock IB exam and knew that what is an IB exam and how to prepare for it, I won’t have to panic about any thing next year when I’m taking the real IB exam next year. In the other hand, I also have a lot of issue to reflect on as well about my mock exam. The biggest issue or problem that I faced during the muck exam would be ‘time management’. In some subjects, because I was taking too long to answering each questions at the beginning, I didn’t had enough time to finish all of the questions. I think this is a really serious issue because if you don’t answering questions you don’t get any marks. Even though is your answer is wrong, there is still some opportunities to get 1 or 2 marks. However if you don’t attempt or didn’t had any chance to attempt the question, you wont even going to any opportunities to get the 1 or 2 marks. Therefore, I think my goal or task for next year would be ‘time management and improve the quality of my answers to the questions and be more specific and detailed’.

Awful, that is the simplest but the most appropriate word to describe how I did in this mock exam. I didn’t use the break time efficiently, I started to study like about three or two days just before the exam and that is definitely not enough. Since I didn’t work as hard as I can in this exam, a bad result is what I deserve. Although the curve makes my grade looks a little bit better, but the curve is not realistic, I believe that only the raw score truly reflect how I did.

The thing which I have to improve is time management. If I can’t manage to use my time wisely, I can’t expect too see an improved grade. I have to start my revision much earlier than the exam, because the amount of stuffs which I am required to know is always larger than I predict.

It isn’t too late for me to make up for my awful exam grades since the semester hasn’t finished yet. There are still one or two tests left for each subject, I can’t mess up anymore, I have to do my best in those tests or else my overall grade will become even worse.

Despite the awful result of my exams, it still gives me an experiment about how the real IB exams will like. I believe that in the future, these exams will be the most valuable resources for me to review.
